FAQs

Your Guide to Getting Inked

Explore comprehensive answers to your questions about the art of tattooing. From aftercare tips to design consultations, here are the answers you need to ensure you feel confident going in and coming out of your session.

Clients can reach out via text, email or social media to book an appointment and/or free initial consultation. If you are not within driving distance, initial consultations can be done via video call. A non-refundable deposit/retainer is required for all new and existing clients to book an appointment and begin a design. Cheese has the right to refuse service to anyone, but refusal shall not be based on race, creed, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, etc.

Throughout this policy, "deposit" is synonymous with "retainer." All deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE and are required to book an appointment. Deposits expire after three months if not used. Appointments that are longer than three hours require a two-hour deposit. Deposits are subtracted from the total cost of your tattoo, the deduction will be made at the final session if your tattoo requires multiple sessions.

Tattoos are priced hourly at $300 an hour. The amount of detail, size, individual skin sensitivities, and other factors will determine how long your tattoo takes, only a rough estimate can be given. The clock starts running at the time of your appointment and ends when your tattoo has been bandaged. Big projects such as sleeves and back pieces will require multiple sessions, so it is best to think of it as a regular expense until completion. Tipping is appreciated and payment is accepted through debit card, credit card or cash.

Each deposit allows for ONE reschedule without penalty within 24 hours of written notice. If you cancel without rescheduling, your deposit will not be refunded.

From experience, clients who let their artist design freely end up with the best results. Interference from friends or family members in the design process takes away from the overall quality of the work. The deposit/retainer is to have ONE appointment with ONE design done. You will be presented with your design on the day of your appointment with no exceptions. If you change the design or want it reworked, this will be at the hourly rate. If you need inspiration, there is a collection of original designs ready to be tattooed available. They can be found on Instagram under the highlight "Wannados." Do not take photos, screenshots, or copy the references or designs. Please be respectful as the design belongs to the artist.

No companions are allowed during the procedure. Please do not bring children or pets.

Services are not available to minors.

Caring for your skin before your tattoo is just as crucial as aftercare. If your skin is not in ideal condition, the appointment will not proceed and you will lose your deposit. Stay out of direct sunlight and tanning beds for at least two weeks before your tattoo and use sunblock when going outside. The sun will dehydrate your skin and activate the melanin, which will highly impact the tattoo. Tattooing on sunburned skin can cause damage. No alcohol is to be consumed at least a day before your tattoo, as it is a blood thinner and can cause dehydration. If you are intoxicated from alcohol, the appointment will not continue and your deposit will not be refunded. Hangovers will also not contribute to your well-being during the session. Do not take painkillers before the session unless they are needed for another reason. These medications often thin your blood and can increase bleeding during your session. Do not apply any kind of numbing cream or similar products before your session. The artist intends to make this the best and least risky experience possible, for that reason, it is the artist's discretion to decide if and when numbing products are used. No tattoos will be done under the influence of drugs. Stay moisturized, hydrated, have a light and nutritious meal, and rest before your appointment. Choose clean, comfortable, and breathable clothing that allow easy access to where you are getting tattooed, and be mindful about what colors you wear as tattoo ink does not come out of fabric. Please inform the artist if you have any skin conditions.

Once you leave the shop, it is under your best interest to properly care for your tattoo. The shop currently uses a surgical bandage or lotion, but no matter which method you choose, the general hygiene and care of the tattoo is the same.

Change your bed sheets for clean ones, and please refrain from sleeping with any pets, as dirty surfaces are breeding grounds for infections. It may help to use an old bed set you don't mind getting stained, as your fresh tattoo can excrete fluids for a few hours and colors will not wash off. Wear clean clothes and keep your tattoo clean. Avoid mud, dust, or other substances that may negatively affect the healing process. Do not expose your new tattoo to sunlight for the first two weeks, including tanning beds. You can wear sun-protecting clothes but do not apply sunscreen before the healing process is completed. Regular showers are okay, but make them quick and do not use hot water. This can open your pores and wash off your ink. Do not submerge your tattoo in water until it is completely healed. Beaches, saunas, baths, or similar environments are forbidden. Do not engage in physical activity and try to avoid sweating. Your tattoo is a delicate layer of pigment under living tissue, your skin, and sweating may excrete some of the pigment. Trauma and stretching can and will damage your tattoo. Your body understands the ink as an invader and your immune system will respond to the injury, creating a natural inflammatory process. It is crucial to minimize this inflammation by staying hydrated and avoiding alcohol and greasy/spicy foods. Do not pick, peel, or scratch your new tattoo. Under no circumstance should you use rubbing alcohol, peroxide, Neosporin, or cortisone on your new tattoo. Avoid using sponges, washcloths, or anything abrasive while cleaning your tattoo. These can harbor bacteria that may irritate or harm your tattoo. Do not let anything touch your new tattoo. Wear breathable and loose-fitting clothing over the area. You may experience some swelling and discomfort during the first couple of days. If you are wearing a bandage, you can use an icepack briefly to minimize this reaction. Place a clean towel between the bandage and the ice pack. If your new tattoo is on your ankle or foot and you are experiencing swelling, elevate your legs. There are tricky spots like joints and areas where your skin moves/cracks constantly, this area may be difficult to heal. The best thing to do is be patient and careful with the area. If you have a hand or foot tattoo, avoid home cleaning products and find shoes that don't rub your new work. If you are a diabetic or smoker, you may experience a slower healing process due to most having a reduced peripheral flow.

If your tattoo is wrapped with this good stuff, you should keep it wrapped for four days to a week, if the wrap holds. There is no need for lotions or anything else if you use these products. During this time, some fluid is expected to build up under the bandage. If it gets to the point where it starts to leak, remove the bandage under room temperature running water. Wash the tattoo with a mild, fragrance/alcohol-free antibacterial soap, allowing your skin to air dry for twenty-four hours. Follow the following aftercare if the bandage doesn't work for you. After four days to a week, remove the bandage under running water. To remove the bandage you must stretch it from each side rather than peel it like a normal bandage. When you stretch the bandage, the adhesive comes off without disrupting the tattoo. Wash the tattoo with a mild, fragrance/alcohol-free soap. At this point, your tattoo will be well into the healing process and you can use lotion, such as Hustle Butter.

Keep the initial bandage on for at least three hours, but keep on overnight if you leave the shop late. Wash your hands well with soap before touching your tattoo, then gently remove the bandage. Wash the tattoo with a mild, fragrance/alcohol-free antibacterial soap using your fingertips or a sterile, lint-free towel, Wipe Outz, to remove residual residues and fluids. Rinse and let your tattoo air dry for twenty-four hours. After that, wash your tattoo twice a day, morning and night, using the soap previously mentioned. Allow your skin to air dry and for a few minutes, then apply Hustle Butter or your preferred lotion until your tattoo is completely healed. As it heals, your tattoo will get dry and itchy, and possibly produce scabs in the ink color. This does not mean the ink is going to fall out, let the scabs fall naturally. If most of your tattoo has healed but you still have a few stubborn spots, do not pick at it. Be patient and keep taking regular care of your new tattoo. This doesn't mean the area will lose color. Using lotion will relieve the itch and help the scabs come off naturally.

Until your tattoo is completely healed, it may appear dull. This is normal and will go away after a few weeks. In the first two weeks, your tattoo will be superficially healed, as the skin can take more than three months to fully renew. After your skin is healed, a good sunblock to protect your tattoo from sun damage will increase its longevity. This should be worn daily as well as moisturizer. Colors will not stay bright if not properly cared for.

The risks most commonly associated with tattoos include infection, allergic reactions, swelling, rashes, and scarring. Complications and even death are possible. The shop follow the best practices and procedures to minimize any danger; however, it is impossible to predict complications. If you manifest symptoms like fever, prolonged or severe pain, redness and swelling, sores that contain or release thick white or yellow fluid, muscle aches and pain that affect the whole body, extreme or unquenchable thirst, hard raised bumps or wounds, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, these are signs you have developed an infection. Contact a doctor immediately, as the shop cannot help with that.

Touch-ups can be needed due to improper aftercare or skin types, as some do not retain pigment well. If you want a touch-up, it has to be understood as regular maintenance and will be charged as a typical tattoo. Be aware that areas such as feet, hands, fingers, elbows, knees, scalp, etc. are prone to fading and will likely need some rework.
